To the annoyance of her cat a kindly witch allows a dog, a bird and a frog who have helped her retrieve things she has lost to ride on her broomstick, making it top heavy. With Simon Pegg, Gillian Anderson, Rob Brydon, Timothy Spall. Detailing the antics of a witch who has just too much company on her broomstick, this. But how can she carry them all on her broom-especially when it breaks?! Cute, fun and a treat for kids. Room on the Broom: Directed by Jan Lachauer, Max Lang. Room on the Broom is a much-loved childrens storybook by Julia Donaldson. Through the course of the film, she picks up several new friends-a dog, a bird and a frog. The story is of a nice witch who is flying about with her cat. They all fall to the ground, and the witch encounters a big, red, terrifying dragon who wants to eat her. And so on, until the broomstick is heavy and snaps in two. Based on Julia Donaldsons picture book, telling the story of a kind witch who invites a collection of animals to join her on her broom, though her cat think. For my kid who knows the book by heart, this was disappointing and weird. Her hair isn't in a braid, but rather a plait. They have not re-recorded these stories for America. "Room on the Broom" plays like a kid's book because apparently it IS from a kid's book. Plus, while I normally like to root for the shorts made by young filmmakers, the Disney film "Get a Horse!" is just light-years ahead of the pack-and I don't see how "Room on the Broom" could offer it any serious competition. Luckily a keen dog bounds from the bushes with the hat in his mouth and asks to ride on the broom. But, I was perplexed that it was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Short. tells the story of a friendly witch and her faithful cat who enjoy flying around, watching the world go by that is until the day that the wind blows the witch’s hat right off her head. The short film is a wonderful thing for kids and parents to watch with them-and I'm sure they'll enjoy it immensely. Bob the Moo (whose reviews on IMDb I adore) described this movie as "Slight but enjoyable family animation" and I couldn't have said it any better myself. ![]()
